Everday Shooter

One of the few interesting indie download games on the PS3, Everday Shooter, is now available for Windows on Steam. It's $8.99 this week, and $9.99 next week. I'll probably get it, despite the fact that I'm already overwhelmed with great games that I haven't made time to play.

These are all over the internet. This one happens to be of one of the two I may buy. Most importantly, this is by far the greatest test footage with music I've ever seen.

Is amazing and disturbing. Heartbreaking and shocking.

Also there's some weird acting in it, probably because of his being French and not a native English speaker and all.

Cheap expensive movie making

So I'm making a no budget independent film. I'm discovering that technology has come a long way towards allowing basically anyone to make a nice film. Thus far, I've purchased a DVX100b camera along with tapestock and I'm very happy. The camera came out to 2250 after a mail in rebate, since it doesn't shoot in HD and its at the very end of its lifecycle. Other pro-sumer cameras in its class don't shoot in 24p, so they wouldn't fit my needs even if they did shoot in high definition.

So yeah, 2250 on the camera alone.

Now, I still have to buy sound equipment. A friend has mentioned a few professional sound people that may be interested in doing the film, but someone who did sound on an independent feature last year has offered to do sound so long as I have the equipment. So, let's look at how much that would be.

Audio Technica 4073a shotgun mic - $550
K-Tek KE89CC boom pole - $180
K-Tek K-SM shock mount - $120
Audio Technica windscreen - $20
Tons of XLR cables to and from mixer and 2 cameras - More money

So at least $870.

And then I need a mac to edit it on, unless I decide to use CS3 or Vegas. So, that adds another 1400-1500 (for an iMac or refurb macbookpro). Not to mention Final Cut Studio.

And then if I ever decide to transfer to film then thats even more.

BUT STILL ITS AMAZING HOW CHEAP ALL THIS SHIT IS. In comparison to film costs this all is really nothing. I mean, it won't look like film, but thats okay. A lot of people can't get it in their head that digital doesn't look like film, but damn they know how to use the camera (they're all over the dvxuser forums). I think I'll settle for how the camera really makes thing look.

But yeah, shits expensive for someone who has no money, but shockingly cheap for what it all is. I was impressed, figured some of you might also be.
