Co-op Tetris

I just ran across this video on youtube... Somehow I missed out on this when I was a kid, but Tengen Tetris for the NES had a cooperative mode. It looks pretty cool. I think my friends who had tetris back then all had the Nintendo version. Check it out:

Man Etches a LeBron James Sketch

Video Post

I don't know if I'm more amazed by this guy's skill at working those knobs or the efforts taken through production and editing to make it seem cool. Either way, I'm not sure I've ever been so simultaneously mesmerized and vaguely unimpressed by something.

"The Darjeeling Limited" Trailer

So Blake told me the other day that Wes Anderson has a new movie coming out next month, and it totally me took by surprise. Here I was thinking that his next movie was going to be an animated version of Roald Dahl's The Fantastic Mr. Fox that wouldn't be out for at least another year. I guess I need to stay more on top of these things, because The Darjeeling Limited will get a limited U.S. release on September 29 (Grant you better make sure Cine gets it!). Written by Anderson, Roman Coppola, and Jason Schwartzman, the movie is about three brothers (played by Scwartzman, Owen Wilson, and Adrien Brody) who haven't spoken in a year, and decide to go on a "spiritual journey" (read: THEY DO DRUGS) in India. Of course they get involved in wacky misadventures, and probably rediscover some sort of touching brotherly bond.

The trailer looks pretty good, in characteristic Wes Anderson style it looks like it will both make you laugh and give you that warm fuzzy feeling. Plus it features a hot jam by the Kinks. Check it out:

They just don't make em like they used to.

I was digging through my old game-tapes today and found this forgotten gem.

Its a little hard to figure out the controls, but once you get em down its all a race to that ever elusive high score. A real treat of a find!

Trapped in the Closet Chapters 13-22

The latest installment of R. Kelly's mind-bogglingly brilliant hip-hopera saga Trapped in the Closet will be released on DVD on August 21. Kelly has released what he refers to as "Chapter 12.5", which is a basically a recap of the previous 12 chapters and a short teaser for Chapters 13-22. Oh shit! Behold:

Who is throwing the viewing party??

New Animal Collective music video

In my opinion, Animal Collective is the only band I know of that is consistently putting out good new music. So it goes without saying that I'm excited about their new album Strawberry Jam, which I have yet to hear despite the fact that it has already been leaked. I blame it on the college town August living situation shuffle that has left me without a consistent internet connection for a few weeks with which to acquire it. For now though, I really enjoy this music video for the song "Fireworks." I hope you like it too.

Fun Flash Game: Boomshine

Here's a nicely designed little flash game, it's called Boomshine. It's very simple, there are a bunch of colorful circles floating around the screen in random directions and you simply click one and it begins to expand. You have to strategically click a circle so that other circles collide with it and start a chain reaction. Like most good casual games it's easy to learn but hard to master, and this game has an excellent difficulty curve. The first level is nearly impossible to lose, but the 12th and last level is very difficult to win. According to the game's website only 3.97% of the level 12 games played are winners. Despite it's difficulty in the later stages, the game never punishes you for losing, you just try again. If you play it, I recommend turning off the music.

The game's designer Danny Miller is or was a student at Georgia Tech. Which makes me think maybe I should have gone there, considering this guy and Ian Bogost are both there. Then again never mind, thinking about the gender ratio there still makes me cringe.

The Power of the Internet

The internet could be seen as a culminating cultural moment in human history. A communicative tool that links users from all over the world and empowers them with the ability to collaborate and share information. The ultimate result of collective human intelligence? See for yourself.
